28. - 30. октябрь 2024 | Vienna House Remarque Hotel, Osnabrück
Dear bidders, friends of medals, coins and decorations,
This afternoon at 4:30 pm we successfully concluded the second part of this year's fall auctions. The third and final part will follow tomorrow with the eLive Premium Auction #417 on our eLive Auction platform. But first to the results of the past three days.
The tension was clearly palpable in our well attended auction room in Osnabrück, as the figures impressively demonstrate: The total hammer price amounted to more than 5.2 million Euros (not including Buyers Premium), more than 65% above the estimate of 3.1 million Euros.
Catalog #415 was titled “Orders, decorations, coins and medals from high nobility and private collections”, containing two outstanding collections form high nobility in particular as well as numerous consignments that were entrusted to us. The items from the estate of the dukes of Bavaria fetched a hammer price 2.5 times higher than estimated. A wedding gift from the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph to his father-in-law on his marriage to Empress Elisabeth, known as “Sisi”, was particularly sought after selling at 100,000 Euros. The estate of Dr. Alexander Eugen Duke of Württemberg comprised 139 items, the total hammer price of which even quadrupled. Overall, catalog #415 achieved a total hammer price of 890,000 Euros, more than double the estimate.
In catalog #416, we presented coins from the ancient world. Starting with the “Collection Dr. Eike Druckrey - Aesthetics and Mindset of the Early Greeks”. The 305 coins selected with a high level of expertise for rarity and preservation were estimated particularly “collector-friendly”, which always arouses great interest among our customers. The total hammer price was almost four times the original estimate. Following the auction and on the occasion of the sale of the Dr. Eike Druckrey collection, Professor Johannes Nollé gave a lecture on “Beautiful horses on Greek coins” to a packed hall on Tuesday evening. The event concluded with lively discussions among those present. This was followed today, Wednesday, by further ancient highlights from various collections. The connoisseurs also discovered numerous rarities in this part of the catalog, including an aureus from the infamous Brutus (lot number 1809), which fetched a hammer price of 170,000 Euros.
We would like to thank our numerous bidders and consignors from all over the world for their loyalty and the trust they have placed in us.
Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to draw your attention to our eLive Premium Auction #417 taking place tomorrow. We are presenting 682 lots from the period from the death of Nero to the end of the Severan dynasty from the ninth part of the collection of Dr. W.R.
