Prächtiges Porträt. Feine Patina, fast vorzüglich

Perikle wurde vermutlich um 435 v. Chr. geboren. Seine Familie hatte wohl gute Beziehungen zu Athen. Perikle regierte Limyra und versuchte zwischen 380 und 362 v. Chr. ganz Lykien unter seine Kontrolle zu bringen. Bis zum Satrapenaufstand ab 362 v. Chr. war er offenbar loyal gegenüber den Achämeniden. In Limyra wurde ihm ein monumentales Grabmal, das sogenannte Heroon des Perikle errichtet.
Das wundervolle Porträt auf dem vorliegenden, beeindruckenden Kleinkunstwerk steht, wie Leo Mildenberg schreibt "unter dem starken Einfluß von Kimons Meisterwerk, der Syrakusaner Arethusa en face".

Perikle is thought to have been born around 435 BC. His family probably had good relations with Athens. Pericles ruled Limyra and attempted to bring the whole of Lycia under his control between 380 and 362 BC. He was evidently loyal to the Achaemenids until the Revolts of the Satraps from 362 BC. A monumental tomb was erected in Limyra in his honor, the “Heroon of Perikle”.
As Leo Mildenberg writes, the wonderful portrait on this small, impressive work of art is “strongly influenced by Kimon’s masterpiece, the Syracusan nymph Arethusa en face”.
